Metal buildings: why the slab and the steel belong in one scope
A pre-engineered metal building arrives as a kit with a set of drawings that are not suggestions: column reactions, base plate dimensions, and anchor-bolt layouts the foundation must match within small tolerances. The slab is engineered against those loads, uplift included, because a light steel building on a windy North Texas ridge wants to leave more than it wants to settle. Pour the slab from the manufacturer's drawings, set the anchor bolts to the template, and erection goes up clean; miss by half an inch and the correction happens at the worst possible time, with the steel on the ground and the crane on the clock.
That is the argument for one scope. Pad preparation, the engineered slab, anchor placement, erection, sheeting and trim, overhead doors, and the surrounding flatwork (aprons, approaches, parking) sequence into each other, and when one contract owns the chain there is no gap for the classic failure where the slab crew and the steel crew each built to a slightly different drawing.
